Welcome to PBcom
Welcome to, what I’ve affectionately come to refer as, PBcom or philbowell.com to give it it’s full title.
For those of you who are arriving here from my other site Electric Weekend, you’ll have noticed a large drop off in posts in the second half of 2009. There are a few reasons for this, most I covered in the last post I made there, others will remain private for the time being. Either way the most important thing you need to know now is that I will be ceasing posting at Electric Weekend. With that said I’d like to introduce you to my new corner of the internet here at PBcom
WHAT’S IN STORE?
This new site is to serve two purposes. The first as my online portfolio to which I can direct people to view my work. The second as a place to write. Let me expand a little more on both of those aspects.
A PLACE TO WRITE
In the first couple of months or so of 2010 the desire to write has begun to rekindle itself. A desire to not just post links and images, something which I’ve been doing on my Tumblr account, but instead to write. To write articles that will contribute to the general conversation on the internet, articles that demonstrate the passion I have for design, music, sport, technology and my faith. I’m not going to limit myself and I’m not going to restrict myself, nor am I going to put pressure on myself. I’m going to only write when I feel I have something to say, but most of all I’m going to make a conscious effort not to hide behind the fear I began to develop while writing at Electric Weekend.
This is one of the reasons behind my move to a new site. Along with the launch of a new portfolio I’ve also felt that I’ve begun to out grow Electric Weekend. The sites I use across the internet, in general, all use my name. If I’m contributing to sites, communities or discussions I want to keep myself honest with what I write, an accountability if you will. The best way to do that is to ensure I’m writing as myself. If I’m hidden behind another name, an alias or whatever, that accountability disappears. Whilst I always make effort that what I write is true to who I am and what I believe, I found in the last year that writing at a titled blog didn’t really feel right. I wanted to keep that level of accountability I’ve built for myself using my own name across the internet with what I write on my blog. I feel it also brings an extra level of authenticity to my work, and I’m hoping that will work in my favour.
THE PORTFOLIO
The purpose, as with most portfolio’s, is to act as a showcase for my work. It’s been two years since I graduated university, in that time I’ve been working at a small design studio and have begun to amass a good quantity of work. I want a place to house all that, a place that will, hopefully, help me to further my career.
The portfolio section is on it’s way, I’ve been working on this site for a few weeks now. The Log section is almost there and I got to the point where I needed to launch something. If you see any glitches please let me know, this is my first Tumblr theme so I’m sure there may be a few rough edges.
